Overmoulding or insert moulding is the manufacturing process of bonding two materials together to produce one component. This gives overmoulding a wide range of applications across all industry sectors and one we offer our customers.

Here is an example of a metal tube which has been placed into the mould and a TPE injected to create a soft feel grip overlay with the customer’s name on.

This is a project where threaded brass inserts are placed into the mould, when the material is injected it surrounds the inserts forming a strong bond. It eliminates the need for secondary operations whilst making the part more robust.

This is the smallest part we have been asked to overmould. It has a metal magnetic insert which is then overmoulded with polycarbonate.

This is a different application where a polypropylene clear part which is injection moulded, is then placed into another mould and TPE injected. It forms a neat secure join, to offer additional functions.
The main reasons to choose overmoulding are
- To improve aesthetics/use multiple colours
- To create a soft feel or grip
- Improve component strength or rigidity
- Shock resistance
- Create a seamless join
- Insulation
- Give additional features
- Improve function
